Description
Pichwai is a 400 year old folk art form that originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan narrating tales of celebrations & festivals from Lord Krishnas life. Backing the image of Krishna as Shrinathji, pichwais are usually hand painted on cotton cloth using mineral colours, original gold/silver leaf & floral borders.
Elements such as cows, peacocks, lotuses, lively figures, sun/moon etc add to the adoration of pichwais. These decorative hangings may also be created by artists in brocade, heavy silk embroidery, dyed tensil-printed or beautifully fabricated lace pichwais.
